Wake Up and Read Book Drive

Apex Friendship High and the PTSA are proud to be a collection location for the county wide WakeUp and Read book drive.

Did you know many elementary aged Wake County children have no books at home? Many arrive to kindergarten without the knowledge and experiences to excel. Our shared goal is to ensure that every child in Wake County is inspired, equipped, and empowered to read.  Please help AFHS and the PTSA overfill our box with wonderful books.

During the month of February, you can donate new or gently used children books by bringing them to the collection box in the main lobby near the front office weekdays from 8am-3pm. Book donations should be appropriate for children from birth-12 years of age. We cannot accept coloring books, magazines or activity books.

You can purchase new books locally or online. Check out our official wish list on Amazon. Order some books and they will take care of the delivery and everything!

Gently used books can be found at yard sales, thrift stores, book exchanges, and even on your own bookshelves at home. Examples of popular book titles are: Curious George, The Magic Treehouse series, The Hardy Boys series, Charlotte’s Web, Goodnight Moon, and more.

Thank you to the numerous teachers, staff, students and groups that have volunteered to help with our book drive. There are several volunteer opportunities available for both students and adults. To learn more about these opportunities or if you have questions about  book drive, please email Leah Williams at: williamsmlp@yahoo.com
