The Wake County PTA Council, together with WakeEd Partnership (WakeEd) and Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to announce the launch of a virtual School Board Forum series with all candidates who have filed to be on the November ballot in Wake County. As the nation’s oldest child advocacy organization, PTA is proud to support these forums for the second election cycle running, and is especially pleased to be co-presenting the forums with WakeEd and the Raleigh Chamber this year. Candidate questions were solicited from the public, and are moderated by nonpartisan community members (including past PTA presidents).

Wake county voters will also see a Wake Tech Bond on the ballot. As part of their plan, Wake Tech has proposed building a permanent Western Wake campus right here in Apex! To learn more about the bond, please visit: https://www.waketech.edu/2022bond

According to Raleigh Magazine, The Wake Tech Bond would allocate money to Wake Tech Community College new buildings and repairs. A national study by Georgetown University’s Center for Education and the Workplace ranks Wake Tech in the top 20% of all colleges and universities in the nation, and the top 10% in North Carolina for student ROI 10 years after graduation. Investments in Wake Tech help provide job opportunities; create the skilled workforce a growing economy requires; and deliver a proven return on investment for students and the whole community. Independent studies indicate that Wake Tech generates more than $1 billion annually for our local economy, with each dollar invested in Wake Tech generating more than $7 in added income and social savings.

What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is a constitutional right and a proud American tradition. It’s the most important opportunity, after voting, that Americans have to be involved in their government. PTA is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful advocacy organizations. PTA has been an advocate for children since 1897 and has always been at the forefront in supporting laws that benefit children. One PTA purpose is to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.

North Carolina PTA members can fulfill this mission and help brighten the future of every child.
