AFHS PTA Position Statement
The AFHS PTSA stands in solidarity with the National, State, and Wake PTA Council, as well as with the WCPSS Commitment to Racial Equity and the value of “a diverse school community that is inviting, respectful, inclusive, flexible and supportive”.
We hold true to our mission to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Students thrive in environments that are safe, accepting and provide equitable opportunities. We recognize our responsibility to model and support anti-racism efforts not only in our schools, but in our greater community. You will be hearing from the AFHS PTSA about specific plans in the coming months.
Statement from the Wake PTA Council:
National PTA: It is important to remember the history of our association especially during a time of racial tension and unrest – much like we have seen in recent days. Our nation, our politics have become more divisive due to what happened to George Floyd and others preceding him. No one individual, no matter the color of their skin, should be subject to what we saw happen to George Floyd. This action has lead to children and families to question their own safety. Our nation must be better than this.
Together, National PTA and our state constituents and their members, know the value of every child. We are committed to ensuring our mission – To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. PTA has never lost sight of its transcendent goal: to change the lives of children across the nation and around the world for better.
We encourage PTA members everywhere to speak out for every child.
Our challenge now is to move above and beyond our separate, divisive experiences and build a shared experience, the experience of working together as human beings – human beings intent on building a nation, a world that cares deeply for all its children, whoever and wherever they are.
TOGETHER WE ARE ONE PTA FIGHTING FOR EVERY CHILD!
